When Matt joined WK in 1995, there was one email address for the entire practice and a heavy reliance on paper, a far cry from the 100% cloud-based practice of today.

Interestingly, however, Matt notes that WK’s business foundations have remained the same: to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients based on trust, respect and knowledge of their business and aspirations.

As the leader of the WK Agribusiness team, that knowledge comes naturally for Matt, built from a background of working in both farming and business prior to becoming an accountant. This has given him a practical understanding of the challenges faced by his clients. He has a specialist interest and experience in farm and business succession.

Matt is a keen sportsman outside of the office, spending many of his spare hour’s yacht racing, and filling up the rest with diving, hunting, social basketball and working on his small family vineyard. He previously represented Marlborough at basketball and represented multiple provinces, including Marlborough, Wellington, and Western Australia in rugby.

Matt is a passionate advocate of the Marlborough Lines Stadium 2000 and has been a trustee of the Stadium for more than a decade. He currently acts as a board member for Marlborough Holdings Ltd, which are the entity that own the Marlborough Port and airport. He is also a trustee of the Marlborough Hospice Foundation and has recently retired as a Director of Port Marlborough NZ after two terms (six years).

Amazing facilities like the Stadium 2000 and the new theatre are part of the attraction to Marlborough for Matt, as well as the amazing lifestyle the region offers.
